DaHiller Wins Hillside Board of Ed. Seat

Muckraking web journalist Sergio Bichao, an 18-year-old freshman at Rutgers, received more votes than any other candidate in Tuesday’s Board of Education election in Hillside, New Jersey. Bichao launched his DaHiller web site while a student at Hillside High School, driving adults at the school and the board of ed. crazy with his calls for reform, accountability and his sharp, informed opinion pieces on local education. Now they will have to share power with him.

My old pal Matt Welch wrote a fine piece about Bichao back in March 2001 (with photos by yours truly). The Newark Star-Ledger mentioned him running in a pre-election story but we will have to wait for some current links on his election win.
