July 29, 2004Best Bleeding Interview EverBarry: Matt just stuck his finger into a Budweiser can and -- I hope this will appear -- is now bleeding from a self-inflicted wound. And you know what? We’re now on the wrong side of the security, so there’s no hope for you. We can’t get you any help. July 14, 2004Farewell to CarlJournalist Carl Kovac dead at 70. Carl Kovac was a warrior. He was a warrior for his country while serving as a United States Marine from 1953-1956 during the Korean Conflict. He was a warrior for society in his lifelong profession as a journalist. I remember Carl as a kind, curious, passionate man from my days at the Budapest International Press Center. He was a good man who will be sadly missed. Rest in Peace, Carl. Rick Bruner has some fine words about Carl over at Generation Expat.

July 06, 2004Editor Too Colorful for Johnstown, PADavid Levine, the colorful -- critics said too colorful -- editor whose blazing headlines and sharp-elbowed style enlivened the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat, was fired yesterday. Levine was my editor when I started on the old Hudson Dispatch back when I was a 19-year-old with a couple Nikons. I can still hear him banging his fist on the desk and screaming, "Looney, where are my pictures!" And I can still see his weekly use of headlines like "Hoboken Horror!" and "Turnpike Terror!" Good Luck in the job hunt, Dave.
